What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical body contouring procedure that removes fat from specific areas of the body that don’t respond to diet and exercise. A small, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through tiny incisions near the treatment area. The cannula loosens and suctions out the fat.
Liposuction isn’t a weight loss procedure. Instead, it’s a highly effective way to reshape areas that tend to hold on to fat, especially around the abdomen, flanks, thighs, back, chest, arms, and chin.
Benefits of Liposuction
Key benefits of liposuction include:
A smoother, slimmer, more sculpted silhouette
- Long-lasting results when paired with a healthy lifestyle
- Improved clothing fit and body confidence
- Ability to treat multiple areas in one procedure
- A customized approach tailored to your goals
For many, liposuction is the finishing touch needed to achieve the healthy, fit-looking physique they work so hard to achieve.

Are You a Good Candidate?
Ideal candidates typically:
- Are nonsmokers in good overall health
- Are at or near a stable weight
- Have good skin tone and elasticity
- Have realistic expectations about what liposuction can and cannot achieve
Dr. Curtsinger will take the time to understand your goals, assess your anatomy, and determine whether liposuction is the best fit for your needs, all with your safety, comfort, and confidence in mind.

Liposuction Options
Dr. Curtsinger will develop a surgical plan that aligns with your anatomy and goals. During your consultation, he’ll talk with you about:
- Target areas: Liposuction can treat one or multiple areas depending on your needs. Common treatment zones include the abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, back, upper arms, neck, and male chest (gynecomastia).
- Fat volume: Dr. Curtsinger takes a conservative, strategic approach to fat removal to ensure your results look smooth, natural, and proportional.
- Combination procedures: Patients often combine liposuction with other procedures like tummy tuck surgery or breast augmentation for comprehensive reshaping.
Your consultation will include a medical review and an open conversation about candidacy, expectations, and what recovery will look like for you personally. The goal is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and confident about your next steps.

What To Expect Before & During Surgery
Here’s a general overview of what the liposuction process looks like:
Before surgery: You’ll meet with Dr. Curtsinger to discuss your goals and receive personalized recommendations. He’ll provide pre-op instructions, including what to do in the days leading up to surgery.
During surgery: Liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the treatment areas and amount of fat being removed. Dr. Curtsinger makes small incisions near the target zones and uses a cannula to break up and suction out excess fat.
After surgery: Once the procedure is complete, you’ll be fitted with a compression garment to help minimize swelling and support your new contours. Most patients return home the same day with aftercare instructions in hand.
Dr. Curtsinger follows up personally after surgery to check on your progress.

Recovery & Results
Recovery from liposuction is generally quick, though your experience will depend on the extent of your procedure.
Here’s a general timeline:
Week 1: Swelling, bruising, and soreness are common. You’ll wear a compression garment and take medication as prescribed to stay comfortable.
Weeks 2 to 3: You can typically return to light daily activities and desk work. Swelling starts to subside, and results begin to take shape.
Weeks 4 to 6: You may be cleared for light exercise and more routine movement. Swelling continues to improve.
After 2 to 3 months: Most swelling resolves, and you’ll enjoy more visible definition and smoother contours.
While results take time to fully reveal themselves, many patients say the wait is worth it. As swelling fades and your new shape emerges, you’ll notice a smoother, more sculpted silhouette. With a stable weight and healthy habits, your results can last for years, giving you not just a physical transformation but a lasting boost in confidence.
