What Can Gynecomastia Surgery Do for You?
Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction, removes excess fat and glandular tissue from the chest. In cases of significant skin laxity, Dr. Curtsinger can also remove excess skin to create a smooth, masculine contour.
Benefits of gynecomastia surgery:
- Flatter, firmer chest shape
- More masculine upper body proportions
- Improved confidence in fitted clothing or shirtless
Many men choose surgery after years of frustration with exercise-resistant fullness or embarrassment in social settings. This procedure provides long-term relief from both physical and emotional discomfort.
This surgery addresses a range of severity, from minor puffiness beneath the nipples to more pronounced fullness that mimics the appearance of breasts. Dr. Curtsinger will tailor your treatment plan to your anatomy and concerns.

Who Is a Good Candidate?
Gynecomastia can develop at any age and is often caused by hormonal changes, certain medications, or genetics. If you’re at a stable weight and in good health but feel self-conscious about your chest, you may be a candidate for surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Curtsinger will take time to explain your options and ensure you feel fully informed and comfortable moving forward.

Surgical Technique
Depending on your needs, Dr. Curtsinger may use liposuction alone or combine it with direct excision of dense breast tissue. In some cases, he may also remove excess skin. Incisions are kept small and strategically placed to minimize visibility, often around the areola or within natural chest contours. For many patients, this outpatient procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours.
Recovery & Aftercare
Most patients return to work or daily routines within 5 to 7 days, though strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to reduce swelling and support your new contour. Mild soreness is normal but typically well managed with over-the-counter medication.
