What Can a Body Lift Do for You?
A body lift targets areas such as the abdomen, hips, flanks, buttocks, and outer thighs. It tightens and lifts these regions in a single, comprehensive procedure.
A circumferential body lift typically includes:
- A tummy tuck to flatten and tighten the abdomen
- Removal of muffin top, flank fat, and love handles
- Lateral thigh lift for outer thigh contouring
- Butt lift with reshaping for a smoother, firmer appearance
- Sculpting of the waist for the smallest possible hourglass effect
Together, these refinements create a more sculpted, balanced silhouette, helping you fully enjoy the results of your weight loss and feel confident in your body again.

Understanding the Terminology
You may see this procedure referred to as a circumferential body lift, lower body lift, or simply a body lift. These terms are often used interchangeably to describe the same comprehensive surgery that addresses the abdomen, waist, buttocks, outer thighs, and flanks. It’s important to note that while a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is included as part of a circumferential body lift, the body lift goes far beyond that—lifting and reshaping the entire lower torso and midsection for a more balanced and contoured appearance.
Some patients also hear terms like belt lipectomy, around the world abdominoplasty, or 360 body lift, all of which refer to similar procedures involving circumferential skin and fat removal around the midsection. Dr. Curtsinger can explain how these terms apply to your surgical plan during your consultation.
A Fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty is sometimes used to achieve similar goals, but requires a large midline abdominal incision.
Body Lift Benefits
A body lift offers the following benefits:
- Removes excess, sagging skin
- Improves clothing fit and mobility
- Smooths and contours multiple lower body areas
- Boosts confidence after significant weight loss
This transformative procedure is often the final step in a patient’s weight loss journey. It restores proportion and helps patients feel more at home in their bodies.

Who Is a Good Candidate?
Candidates for body lift surgery are typically at a stable weight and in good general health. Many have experienced dramatic weight loss after bariatric surgery, medication, or lifestyle changes. If loose skin prevents you from fully enjoying your transformation, this procedure can help complete your journey. Dr. Curtsinger will evaluate your anatomy, skin quality, and goals during a one-on-one consultation.

Drainless Surgical Technique
Dr. Curtsinger’s approach eliminates the need for postsurgical drains by using layered suturing to reduce fluid buildup. This technique makes recovery more comfortable and reduces the risk of complications such as infection or seroma. Incisions are placed strategically around the waistline so you can hide them beneath underwear or swimwear.
Recovery & Aftercare
Body lift recovery typically requires 2 to 3 weeks away from demanding activities. You’ll wear a compression garment to support healing tissues and minimize swelling. Walking is encouraged early to promote circulation, but you should avoid heavy lifting and vigorous exercise for several weeks. Results gradually improve as swelling subsides and the skin adjusts to its new position.
